Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes

"Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes: Revisiting the Alaskan Sublime." Today was the first slideshow and lecture for Gary Freeburg's new book and final reception showing his amazing photographs at the gallery named after him at Kenai Peninsula College. It was so good to gather with friends to support him. Was like "old home week" seeing others we literally "grew up with" at the college where we worked and retired from.

What an enjoyable evening; I could have listened to Gary for hours! There are so many stories about the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes and Gary's book merely introduces and explores its beauty while giving the reader a fabulous background and history of an immense volcanic area in the Katmai National Park.

I did not take my camera inside for the lecture; at least took a photo of Gary, Kathy, and girls with my iPhone and apologize for the slant since I was off to the side and the lighting was not the best. I mean, what can I say - Gary was my main film camera and dark room instructor after my introductory class with Boyd years ago. We are now into the digital age.

Both girls have grown into beautiful young women with fascinating stories of their own journeys. I know others who did not get to the showing will enjoy the photo.

My love and best wishes go with each of you.
What a pleasure to see you again!
